Reading with Year 1
We had great fun sharing some books with Year 1 on World Book Day.
World Book Day
For World Book Day this year, we had to come dressed as a word. We had some interesting choices and our Year 6s definitely got in to character!!
Making periscopes
As part of our Light topic, we have been looking at how light travels and how we able to see the world around us. Once we understood about incident rays and reflective rays, we experimented with what happens to light when it travels through water and what the light spectrum is. Using our knowledge, we created a periscope and had to explain how the light was travelling to allow us to view our classroom through the periscopes.
Gingerbread houses for Christmas!
We started our Christmas week activities by baking and creating gingerbread houses. We had to work in groups to follow a recipe for our gingerbread biscuits and use templates to cut out the shapes we would need for our houses. Once all the biscuits had been cooked and cooled, we set about constructing our 'houses'. We soon realised that gingerbread biscuits do not want to stay up in the shape of a house! Have a look at the pictures below for our final creations - they range from houses and tents to abandoned houses and WW3 bombsites!
Romeo and Juliet freeze frames
After reading Romeo and Juliet, the children had to choose three main points from the play and create freeze frames. Ask you child about the plot and see if you can work out which part of the play is being shown.
Kilve Celebration Assembly
We are amazing role models in Year 6.
This year all of the children have been given a role or responsibility that helps them contribute to school life and be a role model to the younger children. It also gives them the opportunity to show what fantastic young adults they are growing up to be.
