Preparing Children for life in Modern Britain

Fundamental British Values and life in modern Britain

At Martock Primary School, our values are embedded into all the planned learning and opportunities that we provide. Within these, we encourage children to display characteristics that will help them to succeed in modern Britain today. We want all children, staff and families to feel a sense of belonging here at Martock. We actively teach children about the protected characteristics within the Equality act, encouraging respect, understanding and tolerance.

Throughout our curriculum, and wider activities, we plan so that children gain a good understanding of the heritage and diversity of Britain. This includes celebrating ourselves and our families, our communities, famous people in a range of fields both past and present.

We actively encourage

1. Democracy

2. The rule of law

3. Individual liberty

4. Mutual respect and

5. Tolerance for all faiths and beliefs.

Pupil voice is instrumental in ensuring that pupils can be heard, play an important part in every day life as well as making a difference.  Our school councils and Eco councils are elected through a democratic vote. The children attend meetings, supported by staff, to make a positive difference throughout the school year.

We use the No Outsiders assemblies to generate discussions, increase understanding of life in Modern Britain and opportunities to express their thoughts and feelings without prejudice.
